Ms Lee is a registered patent, trademark and industrial design agent in Malaysia. She is a partner of Global IP Southeast Asia (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (GIP ASEAN – MALAYSIA) and is currently overseeing the operation of Global IP Southeast Asia Pte Ltd (GIP ASEAN), a member of United GIPs that is based in Singapore. She holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering (Hons) degree with a major in Biomechanics from the University of Melbourne, Australia. In her practice, she handles IP portfolios for multinational and local corporations. Her professional activities involve all aspects of IP prosecution including drafting patents, conducting prior art searches, responding to office actions, managing local and foreign IP applications, as well as performing freedom to operate analysis and providing strategies and advice on IP related matters. About Speaker : As a Commercial Motors Engineer, Chloe is responsible for integration of commercial motors into Dyson products, her daily task focus mainly on test and verification of DC motors and stepper motors. Chloe graduated with a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Computational Engineering and Design from University of Southampton in 2020. The urge to understand how things work together as a system excites Chloe and has driven her to venture in this challenging journey as an Engineer in Dyson.

Title : Adoption of Reinforcement Learning for EV charging Station Network Planning and Operations

Overview : Dynamic pricing, which aims to dynamically adjust the charging price in a timely fashion to unlock the flexibility of electric vehicle (EV) customers, has been extensively studied with the rapid development of charging technologies. Many existing works on dynamic pricing focus on maximizing the social welfare of charging service providers and EV customers. Cases of high-dimensional charging environments, which are often encountered with the rapid growth of EV market penetration, have been rarely considered to date.

This talk introduces a new dynamic pricing framework for EV charging stations that can offer multiple charging options to customers over a finite time horizon. The charging price can be dynamically adjusted to maximize the quality of service (QoS) with a differentiated service requirement level (SRL) whenever the arrival rates and queuing system capacities of the charging systems are given at the end of a time period. The dynamic pricing problem is formulated as a finite-discrete horizon Markov decision process (MDP) with a mixed state space. A customized deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach is employed to solve the examined EV dynamic pricing problem. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

About Speaker : Dr. Teoh Wei Lin is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM). She received her PhD in Applied Statistics in 2013 from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Her research interest is in statistical process control and statistical quality control. She was one of the recipients of the MIMOS Prestigious Award in 2013, which represents MIMOS’ highest recognition of the contributions of the academia to the nation’s innovation. She has authored or co-authored more than 80 papers in reputable peer-reviewed international journals and proceedings of international conferences, including 11 Q1 journals indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database. She has added another important mark of recognition to her publication achievement by obtaining 15 Google scholar and Scopus h-index. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, which is a journal published by Taylor & Francis, and indexed in the WoS and SCOPUS databases. She also has reviewed numerous journal articles indexed in the WoS database. Her active research collaborators in her research network consist of 11 researchers from Malaysia, France, United Kingdom, Italy, China, and India. Furthermore, as the principal investigator or co-investigator, she is / was conducting numerous external grants and internal grants about new control charting methods and their applications in the manufacturing industries. She is / was supervising 8 research-mode postgraduate students. Moreover, she serves as the Associate Director of Research for the School of Mathematical and Computer Science at HWUM. She also acts as one of the HWUM auditors for Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA), representing the Malaysia Foundation Programme.
